
Meet John
John M. Houkom is Of Counsel with Lewis Kohn & Walker LLP. John has decades of experience representing a broad range of companies and individuals in all aspects of complex commercial litigation, intellectual property litigation, real estate, unfair competition, employment law, and appellate procedure. He has frequently appeared in state and federal courts, arbitrations and mediations, and has extensive experience with all aspects of civil litigation, including motion practice, taking and defending depositions, written discovery, expert discovery, and trial practice.
Among the broad range of cases he has handled, John has a strong interest in handling cases concerning intellectual property rights including trademarks, copyrights and trade secret issues for individuals and closely held companies, he has represented a wide range of clients from creators like architects, software developers and artists, to ongoing businesses such as film distributors, apparel importers/exporters and health care service providers. He focuses on ensuring clients understand the risks and rewards they face in civil litigation, and ensuring their goals are pursued in a way that serves their interests in a cost-effective manner.
John received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was member of the Berkeley Journal of International Law. John also received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was a member of the Order of the Golden Bear Honor Society. Prior to joining Lewis Kohn, John worked at some of the largest law firms in the country, as well as specialty, intellectual-property focused boutique firms.
